Brunei FM

Brunei FM offers opportunity to make our own unique forums, Why all of them are dull (no updates or activities) at the moment? is it "hot2 chicken sh@t" sja? or is it due to our culture that easily got bored? I dare everyone to discuss this.. beeee open minded bout this.. for improvement purposes..

Well I have to say its a bit of everything..Bruneians do get bored easily, maybe not Bruneians, I guess all Netizens are like that.. And secondly, theres no dedicated people to look after the site. And after long thought I decided to write what Im good at instead of what I think people might like to read instead. My field is Internetworking, so Id rather stick to that topic. People like fresh stuff, new stuff..

I agree with ur comments.. but in ur personal point of view, what are the probable solutions to this dilemma? how to keep it happening? like face book, my page etc.. I think u might be the suitable person to ask this at this time, since u have ample x-perience in int.workin..

Its a bit difficult to keep it happening sebenarnya, but not impossible. At first when I started working on BFM new site/New Mail/Chat Servers, I left the site into my co admins administrations, but somehow they are busy themselves, and thats why I have no choice but to come back and work on recreating a lively environment on BFM.

Talking about culture, I have my own disappointment with Malay Cuture, ahaha, let me give you one good example, last April I wanted to begin a project on translating a Support Applications but I have to stop because there are no online Malay Dictionary, when we have all these achievement (im referring to Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore) in other fields, we dont even have an online dictionary (a proper one). The only available dictionary I found back then was 'Kamus Indonesia'.

Honestly Im impressed with Indonesian's achievement in many fields. One of the example is in Joomla. http://www.id-joomla.com/ Indonesian has shown what it takes to be an International Community, Promoting OpenSource using their own language. I think we should follow such steps in the future. Even in terms of Mozilla Community, Indonesia has shown strong support and are loud in their effort to support OpenSource Ideas. I'm impressed and hope that one day Bruneian will think and work the same way as the Indonesians are working right now. In Sourceforge.Net itself, there are few Indonesian Programmers. In design, I found http://www.templateplazza.com to be one of the most admirable achievement of Indonesians in this field.

To make Bruneians to achieve such level requires a cultural change, probably a change of view, to have a Great and Strong mindset, to be able to compete, i rephrase my sentence, For Bruneianas to achieve such Greatness so they can stand on the same level with the International Community.through their own capability, needs a Change of View, A Vision to begin with, A Vision to Berdiri Sama Tinggi, I dont know how this can be done, but I hope the achievement of Brunei FM has somehow promoted such mindset within some of our fellow Bruneians. When I looked at Brunei involvement within nings itself, I see huge improvements of Bruneian community from Consumer to Provider, from Users to Network Creators. This is just a personal view, and I alone can only work to show others that it can be done and its not impossible.

My only solutions now is for me to be active in promoting such cultural changes, to give rooms and space for these New Competitive Culture for growth. We need to start working on rewarding all Brunei sites, and work together to promote locals participation within online community.

Few facts on Brunei FM that most people might not know. Brunei FM has its own Domain name server, running exclusively to support its Networks. These name servers are namely:

(Fact 1)
1. NS1.Bruneiana.com
2. NS3Bruneiana.com
4. NS4.Bruneiana.com
3. VisionX.Bruneiana.com
5. Vision.Bruneiana.com
These name servers have the vision of growing, expanding and yet creating unity. in one stage of the deployment we get 9/10 marks by WebCeo partly because of the improvement in speed. These servers don't allow recursion and currently only serve to provide services for Brunei FM Networks.

Fact 2:
Brunei FM has another mail services that runs under name dotBN.com which actually is one of the biggest achievement this year. Running on our own server, implemented from the basic layer to higher layers of applications (Apache Tomcat. PHP, Linux CentOS, BIND, Postfix etc), this mail support multiple protocols, its actually one of the best free mail around. The server has been under attacks recently, that's why its audited every week to ensure its secure and the integrity is maintained. This project consumed most of my time, but its on its final stage of development. That explains why I have free time to post on Brunei FM site now.

Fact 3:
Brunei FM has its own

Well what happened to my last paragraph lol

Fact 3:
Brunei FM has its own Gateway Chat Server which allows us to integrate Yahoo Messenger, MSN, ICQ, GTalk within 1 single open source application, this services which is powered by OpenFire is named under OpenFire.Brunei.FM. This is also within the final stages of its development. The Next project we will develop will be PushMail Open Source that will give us Free Access to Pushmail Services that some are providing for some amount of fees. Remember that these are community services and its all are free. What we get from it is knowledge and capability to develop these technology further within other aspects of our life.

Fact 4:
Brunei FM is also developing the future of Community Platform which currently run under Dolphin. This project is within the middle stage of its deployment. I tried to analyze everything to ensure the stability of the system, and our focus now is actually to integrate it with Brunei FM OpenIDs which will come later in the Development Stage. I think, Bruneian must change, must adapt to world's changes, not because we believe that we have money, but because we know we can do it. We have the resources and capability to do it. And showing by example is what I can only do here.

Fact 5:
Money is a source of motivation, and in the case of Facebook and those established companies that has been mentioned earlier, those are companies that generates incomes. Its a bit difficult to earn from Brunei FM as the cost per click is very low, which could be as low as 2 cents per click. On my Rented Dedicated Server, one click could reach up to 100x better than Adsense here. I believe its the dilution of uniqueness per click on this site (Ning in general) and the fact that most of our users are from this part of the world (Some of these ads are Geo Targeted), due to millions of users using Ning and many cases of Fraud Adsense Click by Network Creators. Brunei FM rely entirely on my funding in the past. And it only serves as a place where we are all united under one name, that differentiate us, that is 'Brunei'.. I don't believe everything's in life has to be all about money. We can somehow exert some invisible force to show others as example, that things can be achieved if we only focus on it, and this is motivation. When I started working on the site, there were only few sites under Bruneian Network Creators, and today, Ive seen changes in Bruneian trends from Users to Network Creators which is amazing. Because they do wanna make a difference. This is a positive improvement, after a long thought Ive decided to work on helping new sites and webmasters to develop their site. Brunei FM is not about Brunei FM anymore, its about Brunei Communities and Global Communities that try to create a difference.

Fact 6:
WebTop is one of the current project Im doing to benefits students and business people as they traveled. Webtop works pretty much like GoogleDocs except its locally managed. Implementation of such system i believe requires security for users and which I'm still working on. This is within the 2/3 of the stages of development of WebTop. A fascinating fact about Bruneian, is that I don't see many Bruneian are working to create Community Services to help others benefits. Is it the culture to simply leave that to the Government? I thought so. However I hope there are people out there with a vision to help the community and contact me so we can work on it.

Fact 7:
Brunei FM also works to ensure that security requirement are fulfilled. Contrary to what most people believe, actually Brunei FM sites and services such as our Mail Servers are weekly audited to ensure that the security is well maintained. We use Nessus Vulnerability Scanner and deploy it within one of our servers to scan the rests of the servers so any vulnerabilities found can be fixed. My Vision doesn't simply provide services, but a reliable and secure services for everyone.

For Bruneian to achieve something Great, there's a need for a change of percept

For Bruneian to achieve something Great, there's a need for a change of perception, to focus on whats important, to make a difference. So the global community wont make us a laughing material. To achieve success not because we have the money to implement it but because we know we can do it and we are capable of doing it, and this is called a vision. We need to work together and look after our community, not simply leaving the task to the Government, I think a true Bruneian would think that way too. And that's what pushed me to do all these things that I do. As a Bruneian, I can only show by examples that this can be done, and this is what I'm doing. And you see me writing here, yet all those facts above are done by me alone. With great help from family and little helps from few friends.

To my surprise? When I left this site to my co admins to manage? More than 5 of them? And I see a huge degradation in terms of qualities and activities. I'm disappointed, but instead of leaving it and simply scolding the admins, I'm back and Ive decided to dedicate 1 hour of my time everyday to update this site. Some people said they don't have time, but time is not what we wait to appear in front of our eyes, its something that you must make, Time is Something That We Make if you have the commitment, if you have the faith that we must as a community contributes something, not only for this life but for the eternal life beyond this life, Time is what im making, Time for this Site for the sake of Bruneian, this might not generate any money for anyone, but I'm sure it does helps our community a lot.

I guess ur the right person to go to regd this matter... soooo lengthy x-plaination.. i appreciate it.. to simplfy all of the above.. correct me if i'm wrong, our so called "malay culture" must move forward by changing the way we think, mind set, have analytical thinking but surely there are resistance to these changes.. & how we encompass our attitude in accepting comments positively & improve on it rather than "being a sore loser bout it"..

I'm sad to hear ur co admin making "time availability" as an alibi for the job they fail to carry out.. I agree with the last para, my view on time is.. no one in this world have enough time to do all the things in life but surely we can achieve it when we manage our time & tasks appropriately & systematically..

ANY TAKES FROM THE PUBLIC BOUT THIS TOPIC???>>> it's time to change the way we live this life, hoist ur self up & pluck forward.. don't stay in the comfort zone, brace the challenges in front of us to make a better, respected Bruneian community..

p/s say something on this "our norm, we look up to other races for their achievements & success, but what did we mostly do? we just talk & do nothing to compete with them" the other subject that might be an interest is " why HYS so a popular site? is it a place to pin someone down? or is it to post sincere comments for improvements?. Honestly, we read most of the comments are provocative, annoying, hatred based, revenge and etc.. discuss.

It was 2002, in one of the Secondary School in Brunei Muara District, I talked to one of my student on a private counseling session. Why he wanted to quit school? He told me he wanted to fill a vacancy in one of the Petrol Station. He was 16 and studied in Form 2 back then.

When we have all the resources, the capabilities, some of us choose to be lesser than what we are actually capable of. When education is free, some kids choose to work and underestimate their capability. Some rather work in car wash to make 10 BND a day, while they failed to see the value of education that will help them earn 10x or more than that.

I think we've failed to send the Real Message to these kids that Education is the most profitable investment in life. I kinda wondering, what sort of messages have we been sending to our kids from the moment they step into Darjah Pra, till they reached form 2 or form 3 when they decided to quit school and get a job instead. What have we been teaching them for the past 6 to 8 years, are we educating them? Or simply teaching them? It was 2007 I saw one of my ex students working in Petrol Station. Dreams came true, but then again, I think the government spent a lot in education. Was it really education? or Teaching? Because Education are suppose to make these kids wiser and be able to think for themselves.

Well Evilest, I think its not entirely my co admins fault that the site's no longer work as it was. It was partly my fault too. I think I must as well take part in developing the site. My disappointment lies within the fact that this site doesn't mean much to them.

But I really hope one day someone will be able to continue my vision. I cant be here forever. Someone must continue this tradition. Sharing and giving to the community.
Sharing knowledge and motivating each other. This community too must start learning to give. Or else, there's no more place for Bruneian in this world, if it weren't for the prosperity that God blessed us with, the wolrd will only see us as Orang Asli.. :)

Yup, I agree, but i don't say we fail it, i think it's lack of creativity or maybe the way we project the message. correct me if i'm wrong, most of the kids now days sees, learning is a torturous thing, why is this? is learning not fun anymore? are kids to blame for not having passion to learn? why is this?. learning should be fun, not torture.. how do we achieve this? dynamic, creative teaching? or autocratic way? how do we make them realize, without eduction, they will face more problems in the future esp when they have their own family..

I think our people is in the comfort zone (sorry to say, manja x tani ani..). almost everything are being sponsored, subsidized but yet people take it for granted. honestly, i'm proud & lucky tobe a bruneian.. free eds, some of our institution provide education allowances (wow..), minyak murah, byk barang harian kana subsidi.. cubatah tani di luar negeri..pakai cawat ja kali pas bli barang.. but atleast we give something back to the gov't by making the investment worth while by having an image of very bright, educated community to the outside world

what all of us must do is, get out of the comfort zone, face reality, kill the feeling of ignorance, complacency, laziness in our selves, brace the challenge in front, make changes for the better future. may god guide us the right path... amin

Hello mellow..

Aww.. banar plg tu.. i can't argue with that.. but still.. from the comments.. it clearly shows that our culture take the big cut.. or maybe its our nature to care less bout things going around them.. but if this site is filled with current trends, like anime or something that makes the younger genz go crazy.. i think we'll get the respond that we wanted.. but that's just theory.. i could be wrong.. Human behavior is such a complex thing to understand.. but interesting to know...
